Our theme is:
Manaakitanga
Safeguarding collective wellbeing.
Manaakitanga is about how you care for each other, the well-being of your community, engaging with one another and maintaining strong relationships. It creates accountability for those who care for people, relationally or systemically. When we uphold and extend manaakitanga from a distance, safeguarding collective wellbeing includes adequate resources and training.
Manaakitanga is also about fostering mana and showing aroha to other people, making this one of the most important concepts in Māori culture.
The theme manaakitanga is all about how we support each other and enhance mana through mutual responsibility and reciprocity. Within midwifery, manaakitanga is expressed when we provide care to our communities, nurture our colleagues, and protect the well-being of midwifery within our health system. Upholding manaakitanga safeguards collective wellbeing by ensuring that midwives and whānau have the knowledge and resources they need to achieve optimal outcomes.
Presentations related to manaakitanga may focus on:
Protecting and enhancing the mana of midwifery
Supporting midwives
Supporting our communities
Sharing responsibility and accountability
Collective wellbeing
Achieving optimal outcomes
Maintaining strong relationships
Inspiring and motivating midwives to provide optimal care
The importance of continuity of care
Engaging meaningfully with others

2025 Conference Venue
Claudelands
Claudelands is located in Kirikiriroa | Hamilton, in the heart of the Waikato region, within 90 minutes’ drive of Auckland, Tauranga and Rotorua.
Many of the design elements of Claudelands derive from the culture and heritage of Te Papanui (a bird snarer’s seat). The narrative of the forest canopy inspired the Arena Veil design, the principal facade of Claudelands. The structural columns remind us of majestic trees that covered Te Papanui, and the ‘dancing spears’ recall the movement of the tao or hunting spears. The flight of the native birds is reflected in Claudelands’ distinctive exterior colours – rich kokako blue, bold kaka red, the flash of orange tieke feathers and the bright yellow hihi.
